Lineage
Reiki lineage, for the most part, can be thought of as a family tree. Once a student has completed a level of study s/he receives an initiation attunement. After this process, the student is forever linked to that family tree or lineage. To some people lineage is everything, and to others it is of no importance. We have personally found that extremes in any manner are not the way to a happy existence. We believe that a middle ground is usually a good rule of thumb.
Your Reiki Lineage is important because: 1. It provides others with proof that you are directly connected to Dr. Usui who re-discovered Reiki, and 2. If you choose to become a Reiki Master, your lineage shows you are qualified energetically and spiritually to pass on this wonderful healing ability. You may think of it as part of your academic transcript of Reiki.
Anyone can take Reiki classes from a reputable teacher, receive a Reiki Master certificate, become part of a lineage, and then offer Reiki classes to other people. While lineage is an important aspect of Reiki, it can not guarantee that the Reiki teacher is of good moral character, lives their life in the ways of Reiki, and has the ability to nurture new students. This is why it is important to consider many different aspects when choosing a Reiki teacher, and not base your choice solely on lineage.
